OpenAI dots South Korea Plans and App Permissions

OpenAI dots is an always-on agent being rolled out gradually to Pro and Business Premium accounts in South Korea. App access permissions and task approval rules are separate, and disconnecting an app alone does not delete information already obtained.

OpenAI dots is being rolled out to Pro and Business Premium accounts in Korea. Enterprise requires administrator activation. Disconnecting an app does not erase information already obtained from it.

Availability conditions are based on the September 29, 2026 announcement and OpenAI help articles.

What kind of AI agent is dots?

dots is an always-on agent that continues assigned work between conversations. Based on GPT-6 Astra, it runs on its own cloud computer. It uses information from connected apps and accumulated context for work.

OpenAI presented an example of turning customer feedback into code changes and tests. It also described updating analyses and charts as new data arrives. These are examples of uses described by the company, not guarantees that individual tasks will succeed. OpenAI's dots announcement

OpenAI dots plans and availability in Korea

In Korea, Pro and Business Premium accounts are eligible for the rollout. Korea is on the list of countries where ChatGPT is supported. It is also not among the regions excluded from Pro: the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. ChatGPT supported countries

Account type Official availability conditions What to check
Pro Rolling out in markets outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom Whether the feature appears in the account
Business Premium Available in regions where ChatGPT is supported Whether the Premium eligibility requirements are met
Enterprise Beta access after administrator activation Workspace and role-based permissions
Edu and Healthcare Included in the Enterprise eligibility guidance Whether an administrator has activated the beta
Other plans Not listed as eligible in the guidance reviewed Latest guidance on supported plans

It may take several days for the feature to appear even in eligible accounts. People under 18 are not eligible. Being in a supported country does not guarantee access for every account. Getting started help, Privacy and safety FAQs

How are extra costs and usage distinguished?

The first dot is included with Pro and Business Premium at no extra cost. Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. Tasks assigned to Codex or ChatGPT Work use existing limits.

In-depth tasks have a separate included usage allowance. An expanded allowance was announced for the first month after launch. Exact subscription prices and applicable limits should be checked on the account's plan screen. (Verified officially published USD monthly subscription prices: Pro 100 is $100 per month, Pro 200 is $200 per month, and Pro 500 is $500 per month. Business Premium is $125 per user per month with monthly billing; with annual billing, per user · source help.openai.com · checked 2026-10-07) Costs and usage guidance at launch

Comparing desktop and mobile access

The first dot must be created in the desktop app or on the desktop web. After initial setup, the mobile app serves as a way to chat with it. Mobile access must also be available to the account.

Access method Create the first dot Subsequent use
ChatGPT desktop app Yes Chat, check tasks, connect devices
Desktop web Yes Initial setup and chat
ChatGPT mobile app No Chat with an existing dot when the feature is available
Mobile web No dots not supported

Connections to messaging channels such as Slack are also set up on desktop. Support for the service in Korea does not mean every contact method is supported. According to the help article, the text messaging beta is limited to Pro users in the United States. Access guidance by platform

Distinguishing OpenAI dots permission settings

App access, proactive research, and task approval are separate controls. Connecting an app allows information within the permitted scope to be used. Separate rules govern sending information externally or making changes.

Control Role Easy point to confuse
App permissions in Plugins Manage which accounts and tools can be accessed Connecting an app does not approve every action
Proactive research Read and investigate connected information before a request Research tools cannot send messages, make changes in apps, or control a computer
Custom Rules Set standards for allowed actions, approval requests, and prohibited actions Mandatory safety requirements cannot be turned off
Auto-review Check actions against instructions and safety requirements before execution User approval alone does not remove every restriction
Local computer connection Allow access to files and tools on a personal computer Separate from use of the cloud computer

Proactive research can read permitted information and make its own notes. Follow-up actions based on that research follow the usual approval rules. Those rules also apply when previously approved work continues in the background.

Users must handle sensitive steps, such as changing passwords, themselves. The activity view shows work in progress and delegated tasks. Errors remain possible despite safety measures. Safety design for dots

What can Enterprise administrators enable?

Enabling dots and allowing app access are separate in Enterprise. Administrators can control access to local computers and messaging channels, among other things. Permissions in connected services also limit the scope of access.

The administrator setup steps are:

  1. Open Permissions & roles in Workspace settings.
  2. Go to Permissions > Workspace default > Workspace capabilities.
  3. Review Use dots (Beta) and the individual features needed.
  4. Save the settings and check members' custom roles.

Access granted through one role may take precedence over a disabled setting in another role. To revoke access, all applicable permissions granting it must be checked. App authentication and website login sessions are managed separately. Workspace administration help

Comparing disconnection and reset

Disconnecting an app stops new access through that connection. It does not delete information the dot has already obtained. OpenAI's Getting started with your dot explains it this way:

Disconnecting an app does not delete information your dot has already obtained from it.

Action What changes What should not be assumed deleted
Disconnect an app Stops new access through that connection Information already obtained
Pause Stops the dot until it is resumed Conversations and stored memories
Reset Deletes the dot and its conversations, memories, and scheduled tasks All outputs created in separate locations

Reset has a broader scope than simply changing connection settings. Review what will be deleted on the confirmation screen. After a reset, a new dot must be created on desktop. Disconnection and reset guidance

Outputs and shared memories that remain after a reset

Separately stored outputs may remain after a dot is deleted. Files created by the dot and Codex threads are stored separately. Separate ChatGPT conversations created by the dot are also not deleted.

This distinction helps determine what needs to be deleted when work ends. The following items must be checked separately from a dot reset:

Turning off ChatGPT's memory setting does not erase information already shared. The dot's own individual memories currently cannot be viewed, edited, or deleted directly. Stopping access, deleting memories, and clearing up outputs must therefore be treated separately. Information retention and deletion scope

Common mistakes

Always-on should not be taken to mean unlimited permissions. Operating time and the scope of access are different conditions. The following assumptions also need to be distinguished from the official guidance.

Common assumption What to distinguish
A paid account can use it immediately Check both plan eligibility and the rollout
Installing the mobile app allows initial setup The first dot must be created on desktop
If proactive research is read-only, all tasks are read-only Separate rules apply to approved actions
Disconnecting an app deletes all its information Information already obtained may remain with the dot
Resetting a dot deletes every trace of its work Separate files, conversations, and shared memories are managed separately

Frequently asked questions

If the feature is not visible in Korea, does that mean it is unsupported?

The feature not appearing does not, by itself, mean Korea is unsupported. The rollout can take several days even for eligible accounts. Check both the plan and whether the feature is available to the account.

Is every Business account eligible?

The official guidance specifically names Business Premium. The Business name alone does not establish eligibility.

Is connecting a personal computer required?

Connecting a personal computer is optional. A dot has its own cloud computer. Local access is off by default.

Are connected apps used only by dots?

Plugin permissions are shared by dots, ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. Existing connections may also be used by dots within the permissions granted. Shared permissions guidance

Are conversations and work information used to train models?

For personal plans, use depends on the model improvement setting. Business, Enterprise, and Edu content is not used for training by default. Information from proactive research may also be used for training according to the setting if it is later used in a conversation. Data use explanation

What is the difference between disconnecting an app and resetting a dot?

Disconnecting stops new access through that app. Resetting deletes the dot's conversations, stored memories, and other data. It does not delete separately created files all at once.

FAQ

Can I use dots in Korea?

Korea is an eligible region. The feature is also being rolled out to Pro and Business Premium accounts, so it may take a few days to appear.

What is required for Enterprise?

A workspace administrator must enable the dots beta. You should also check the role-based access permissions that apply to members.

Is there an additional cost for dots?

The first dot is included with Pro and Business Premium at no extra cost. In-depth work has an included usage allowance, but that does not mean unlimited use.

Can I create my first dot on mobile?

You must create your first dot in the desktop app or on desktop web. You can use the mobile app after setup, but mobile web is not supported.

Can proactive research send emails on its own?

Proactive research tools cannot send messages directly. Actions taken after the research are subject to the usual approval rules and safety review.

Does disconnecting a connected app also delete stored memories?

Disconnecting an app alone does not delete information already obtained. To delete a dot's stored memories, you must reset the dot.

Does resetting a dot also delete files it created?

Separately saved files, Codex threads, and ChatGPT conversations are not deleted along with it. You must manage them separately where they are stored.

Do I need to allow access to my personal computer to use dots?

Connecting a personal computer is not required. A dot uses its own cloud computer, and you grant local access separately.
