# 2026 Flu Shots in Castilla y León: How to Book

> Castilla y León will begin priority flu vaccinations for facility residents and children aged 6 months to 11 years on October 1, 2026 (Spain). People in the general recommended groups can book appointments from October 9 (Spain) and receive vaccinations from October 13.

## Key Points

- Check whether you are eligible for a flu shot based on your age and health.
- Check whether you qualify for priority vaccination, then check the booking schedule that applies to you.
- Have the health card and personal details of the person getting vaccinated ready.
- Choose an appointment through SACYL Conecta or the official online booking portal.
- Confirm your appointment location and time, and ask a healthcare professional about any additional vaccinations you need.

People in the general groups recommended for flu vaccination in Castilla y León can book appointments starting October 9. Vaccination expands starting October 13 (Spain). Care facility residents and children aged 6 months to 11 years receive priority vaccinations starting October 1. Have your health card ready and use official SACYL channels.

The schedule was announced on September 23, 2026, and eligibility follows the 2026~2027 guidance.

## How to book a flu vaccination appointment

SACYL users should use the official appointment channels for their registered health center. SACYL is the public health service of Castilla y León. You can book online, through the app, by phone or in person.

1. **Check whether you are eligible.** Review the age and risk-factor criteria below.
2. **Check the dates that apply to you.** Appointments for the general recommended groups open on October 9, 2026.
3. **Have the recipient’s information ready.** Online booking uses the CIP, the personal identification code on the health card. Check the first surname as well. For phone bookings, have the person’s first name, surname and date of birth ready.
4. **Choose a time through an official channel.** Use SACYL Conecta or online booking. You can also call the center’s appointment number on the back of the health card.
5. **Check your appointment details.** Confirm the vaccination location and time. If you can no longer attend, use the appointment lookup or cancellation feature.

On the health portal, look for ‘Cita Previa con su Centro de Salud’. Then select ‘Solicitud de cita previa por internet’. If you do not see a vaccination option, contact your registered center. ## What is the difference between October 1, 9 and 13?

October 9, 2026, is when appointments open for the general groups. Vaccination expands on October 13. All dates below follow the local schedule in Spain.

| Date | What it means | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Starting October 1, 2026 | Priority vaccinations begin | Care facility residents, children aged 6 months to 11 years and others |
| Starting October 9, 2026 | Advance booking for the general groups | General groups recommended for vaccination |
| Starting October 13, 2026 | Vaccination expands to all recommended groups | People who meet the recommended criteria based on age, medical conditions, pregnancy, occupation or other factors |

The official wording in the public campaign guidance is:

> A partir del 13 de octubre se extiende a todos los grupos de población en los que está recomendada.

The document is titled ‘Campaña de vacunación frente a Gripe y COVID-19. Temporada 2026-2027’. This means ‘Starting October 13, it expands to all groups for whom it is recommended’. It does not mean every resident is automatically eligible. [Public campaign guidance](https://saludcastillayleon.es/sanidad/cm/ciudadanos/tkContent?idContent=1562818&locale=es)

October 13 is not an application deadline, either. The public flu Q&A does not give a specific end date. Available appointments depend on each center’s vaccine supply and staffing. ## Who is recommended for flu vaccination in 2026~2027?

Children aged 6 months to 11 years and people aged at least 60 meet the age criteria. Others should check the criteria for medical conditions, pregnancy, occupation and caregiving. The table below groups the main recommended categories.

| Criterion | Main groups |
|---|---|
| Age | Children aged 6 months to 11 years; people aged at least 60 |
| Medical conditions and risk factors | People aged 12 to 59 with diabetes, chronic heart, lung or kidney disease, immunosuppression, cancer or other qualifying conditions |
| Pregnancy and childbirth | Pregnant women; women within 6 months after giving birth who were not vaccinated during pregnancy |
| Specific treatment | People aged 12 to 18 taking acetylsalicylic acid long term |
| Work | Workers in health care and care facilities, essential public services, educational institutions and other settings |
| Caregiving and household | Caregivers and household members of people at high risk; primary caregivers and household members of infants under 6 months old |
| Animal exposure | People whose work directly exposes them to certain animals or their secretions |

If you cannot tell whether you qualify from the name of a medical condition alone, ask your health center. Tell them about any medication you take, too. The full list of risk factors is in the public Q&A. (Verified numerical criteria for 2026~2027 flu vaccination recommendations: people aged 12 to 59 with medical conditions or risk factors; women within 6 months after giving birth who were not vaccinated during pregnancy; people aged 12 to 18 taking acetylsalicylic acid long term; primary caregivers and household members of infants under 6 months old · Source: saludcastillayleon.es · Checked 2026-10-04) [Groups recommended for flu vaccination](https://www.saludcastillayleon.es/es/vacunaciones/campana-vacunacion-frente-gripe-covid-19-temporada-2026-202.ficheros/3425755-Preguntas%20y%20respuestas%20GRIPE_ciudadanos%202026-2027_metadata.pdf)

## Children’s vaccination ages and vaccine comparison

This year, the upper age limit for children’s flu vaccination is 11. Last year, it was 8. Based on age alone, children aged 9 to 11 are included this year. Children in the age range are eligible even if they have no underlying medical conditions.

| Category | 2026~2027 guidance |
|---|---|
| Ages 6 to 23 months | Inactivated vaccine given by intramuscular injection |
| Ages 2 to 11 years | Live attenuated vaccine administered in the nose; restrictions on use must be checked |
| Healthy children aged 6 months to 11 years | One dose, regardless of previous flu vaccination |
| At-risk children aged 6 months to 8 years who have not been vaccinated before | Two doses at least 4 weeks apart |

The vaccine administered in the nose is not suitable for every child. Tell medical staff about immunosuppression, acute asthma symptoms or similar conditions. Check which vaccine and how many doses are appropriate for the child’s condition. ## Comparing flu and COVID-19 eligibility

Being eligible for a flu vaccine does not automatically make you eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. The two vaccines have different recommended groups. Check the criteria for each vaccine before booking.

| Category | Flu | COVID-19 |
|---|---|---|
| Age criterion for older adults | At least 60 | At least 70 |
| Ages 6 months to 11 years | Healthy children are also included | Mainly children with conditions that greatly increase the risk of severe illness |
| Other criteria | Medical conditions, pregnancy, occupation, caregiving and others | Separate criteria for care facility residence, immunosuppression, high-risk medical conditions, pregnancy and others |

The COVID-19 categories were cross-checked against a report on an announcement by the Soria health authorities. Recheck individual eligibility under ‘Población diana COVID-19’ on the health portal. The flu criteria are under ‘Población diana gripe’. (Verified criteria: the 2026~2027 flu vaccination age criteria include children aged 6 months to 11 years and people aged at least 60; people aged 12 to 59 are included in the recommended groups according to specified medical conditions and risk factors. · Source: saludcastillayleon.es · Checked 2026-10-04) [Report on the Soria campaign announcement](https://cadenaser.com/castillayleon/2026/10/01/arranca-la-campana-de-la-gripe-con-mayor-prevalencia-de-coronavirus-en-este-inicio-del-otono-ser-soria/), [official guidance for each vaccine](https://saludcastillayleon.es/sanidad/cm/ciudadanos/tkContent?idContent=1562818&locale=es)

If both vaccines are recommended for you, you can receive them during the same visit. Ask about receiving both when you book. Medical staff will confirm before administering them. [Guidance on receiving both vaccines](https://www.saludcastillayleon.es/es/vacunaciones/campana-vacunacion-frente-gripe-covid-19-temporada-2026-202.ficheros/3425755-Preguntas%20y%20respuestas%20GRIPE_ciudadanos%202026-2027_metadata.pdf)

## Finding a vaccination location in your area

Check the health portal’s list by area for vaccination locations. The page is called ‘Lugares de vacunación de Gripe y COVID-19’. Do not go to a hospital of your choice based only on its location.

1. Select ‘Vacunaciones’ on the health portal.
2. Open the 2026~2027 flu and COVID-19 campaign.
3. Select ‘Lugares de vacunación de Gripe y COVID-19’.
4. Check the vaccination locations and booking method for your area.

The list includes Ávila, Burgos, León and Palencia. You can also select Salamanca, Segovia and Soria. Valladolid and Zamora have separate entries as well. [Vaccination locations by area](https://saludcastillayleon.es/es/vacunaciones/campana-vacunacion-frente-gripe-covid-19-temporada-2026-202/lugares-vacunacion-gripe-covid-19)

Care facility residents should ask facility staff about the vaccination schedule. People eligible through their work can also check with their workplace health department. Members of mutual insurance schemes who receive care outside SACYL should contact their insurer. ## Common mistakes when you cannot book

Do not assume you are ineligible just because the booking screen shows no available appointments. First, distinguish between the general booking start date and your center’s schedule. SACYL advises requesting help through its administrative channel when booking is difficult.

| Screen or situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| You are in a general group, but booking has not opened | Appointments open on October 9, 2026 |
| No vaccination option or times appear | Your registered center’s vaccination schedule and booking channels |
| You cannot complete an online booking | The ‘ÁREA ADMINISTRATIVA’ administrative channel under ‘PEDIR CITA’ |
| You selected a different health center | Whether it is the center where you are registered |
| You cannot use the website | Book by calling the center or visiting its reception desk |

An administrative request is not a confirmed vaccination appointment. Wait to hear from the center, then confirm when to visit. This process helps distinguish an issue with the online screen from actual vaccination eligibility.
